Ohio adds 7,892 new COVID cases; another 8,367 residents vaccinated with first dose

Another 7,892 Ohioans tested positive for the coronavirus as of Monday, bringing the statewide total to 784,957. Monday’s caseload was more than the three-week average of 7,410 new cases reported per day, according to the Ohio Department of Health. An additional 75 COVID-19 deaths were reported Monday, which was even with the three-week average of 75 new virus deaths reported a day. So far, the virus has killed 9,702 Ohioans, state data shows. The pandemic has hit older Ohioans particularly hard, with 93% of deaths occurring in people age 60 and older, according to the state. President Trump gives Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan the Presidential Medal of Freedom

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan is about to join an elite group that includes Martin Luther King Jr., Tennessee Williams and Steven Spielberg. President Donald Trump plans to award the Urbana Republican the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Monday afternoon in a closed-door ceremony. "This prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, which is awarded by the president to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors," according to a White House Press release. Reports: Pro-Trump ‘armed march’ on Ohio Statehouse planned for this weekend

Citing security concerns, state officials declined to discuss preparations ahead of reports that supporters of embattled President Donald Trump plan an "armed march" on state capitols, including Columbus, on Sunday. The Washington Post reported far-right online forums talked of planning for "an armed march on all state capitals" and included specific mention of Columbus following the deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob on Wednesday.
