Election commission: Memphis poll worker fired after asking voter to turn ‘Black Lives Matter’ shirt inside-out

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis poll worker was fired after he asked someone wearing a T-shirt with the words "Black Lives Matter" to turn it inside-out at the poll, the election commission said. It happened Friday at the Dave Wells Community Center in North Memphis, said Suzanne Thompson, a spokesperson for the Shelby County Election Commission. It’s standard protocol for poll workers to ask someone wearing a shirt with the name of a political candidate on the ballot to turn it inside-out when inside the polling place, Thompson said. Mississippi governor announces mask mandate for nine counties

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Governor Tate Reeves announced additional measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Mississippi. A new executive order places a 10% capacity requirement on healthcare facilities across the state. If hospitals cannot maintain 10% of their capacity for COVID-19 patients, they must delay elective procedures. Mississippi’s COVID-19 cases have increased over the past few weeks—part of a global and national trend of increasing cases. Early voting in Arkansas begins

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Early voting for the 2020 general election kicks off Monday, October 19. It’s an easy way to avoid a lot of the election day traffic, long lines and stress. According to the Secretary of State’s office, election officials are hard at work to provide safe and secure voting opportunities for Arkansans. Early voting goes from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays during the early voting period. Pelosi: 48 hours to strike deal to get stimulus checks out before Election Day

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday morning a deal on federal coronavirus aid needs to be struck within 48 hours to get relief to Americans before Election Day. Pelosi spoke on ABC’s "This Week" saying she and the White House are at an "impasse" over a bipartisan deal that’s expected to send $1,200 checks to most Americans. Memphis Police are searching for a 37-year-old man who may have been kidnapped

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for a 37-year-old man who left his home around Noon and no one has heard from him since. MPD said Harvey Watson left his house midday on Sunday in the 2300 block of Hawkhurst. Additionally, they said an unknown person has called the mother of Watson with threats to harm him, if demands are not met. Watson is biracial, and approximately 5-foot-8, 130 pounds and was last seen on foot wearing a black sweater, blue jeans, and gray/black shoes.
