Hutto played four complete quarters for the first time this season, and the result was a 49-10demolition of Vandegrift at Hutto Memorial Stadium on November 6. The Hippos' defense was the story — six fourth-down stops turned what could have been a competitive game into a procession. Vandegrift never found an answer for the pressure, and the Vipers' passing game was bottled to 137 yards. The offensive production was distributed and creative. Dylan Owens ran for two touchdowns and compiled 135 yards from scrimmage. Quarterback Micah Antoun threw for 238 yards and two scores. Carson Fields scored twice — once on a 55-yard option pitch from his older brother Jaiden, once on a 7-yard reception. The brothers' chemistry was a recurring theme: Jaiden Fields threw a 54-yard double-pass touchdown to Zyion Street, added 127 receiving yards and a touchdown of his own, hauled in an interception, and broke up a fourth-down pass. The kid was everywhere. Hutto opened with aggression, going for it on fourth-and-2 from their own 45 on the game's first meaningful possession. Carson Fields took the option pitch and went 55 yards. That early gamble set the tone — the Hippos played like a team that trusted its defense to bail out any risk. By halftime, Hutto led 28-10 and had already forced three fourth-down stops. The second half was academic. Vandegrift received the kickoff and promptly went four-and-out on a fourth-down incompletion at the Hutto 23. The Hippos responded with a six-play, 77-yard drive capped by Owens' second rushing score. Antoun's 33-yard TD strike to Jaiden Fields — thrown while being tackled — pushed the lead to 42-10 before the third quarter ended. Kevin Cooper added the final score on a 6-yard run. Vandegrift's lone bright spot was Preston James III, who ran for 92 yards and the Vipers' only touchdown on a 5-yard run late in the second quarter. The Vipers managed a 30-yard Landon Klein field goal early but never sustained offensive drives against Hutto's front. Head coach Drew Sanders' squad finishes district play at 4-2 and draws a tough bi-district road trip to District 23 champion Bridgeland. Hutto (8-2, 5-1) secured the top seed out of District 24 despite finishing second in district standings overall. Coach Casey Walraven's team will face Cypress Ranch at A&M Consolidated in the opening round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs. If the Hippos' defense plays like this — converting opponent possessions into turnovers on downs at this rate — they'll be a difficult out for anyone in the bracket.
