The United States has resumed sharing intelligence with Ukraine about incoming Russian ballistic missile strikes, Zelenskyy confirmed Tuesday after meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff in Oslo. The advance warnings — suspended by the White House last week without public explanation — directly affect civilian survival. "Now it works. It's great," Zelenskyy said, adding the intelligence saves the lives of "children, adults, civilians." The restoration came during the deepest crisis in US-Ukraine relations since Russia's full-scale invasion nearly five years ago. The Oslo talks included Witkoff, Jared Kushner (by video), Norway's PM Jonas Gahr Støre, Finland's president Alexander Stubb, and EU and British security officials. Zelenskyy described a "positive" earlier call with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, though substantive disagreements remain unresolved. The intelligence cutoff was only one of several pressure levers Washington pulled simultaneously. Starshield — the military-grade version of Elon Musk's satellite internet — was throttled last week, crippling Ukraine's ability to launch mid-range drone strikes on Russian battlefield positions. The Pentagon has blocked delivery of Patriot missile interceptors to Kyiv that were paid for by other countries. Zelenskyy offered to halt long-range attacks on Russian oil refineries — a key Trump demand — in exchange for the Patriot systems. Trump continued to frame Zelenskyy as the primary obstacle to peace. "We want Zelensky to make a deal. He can make a deal. He could have made a deal two years ago," Trump said Tuesday. He also revealed he had asked Putin to release American prisoner Stephen Hubbard — held by Russian forces in occupied Ukraine — in what reads as a further public alignment with Moscow. The EU's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas questioned whether US negotiators had acted as honest brokers, noting Witkoff has held numerous meetings with Putin in Moscow but visited Kyiv only once. "American negotiators have been trying to push Ukraine into surrender for one and a half years now," Kallas said, crediting European support for preventing capitulation on Putin's terms. Zelenskyy pushed back against a Putin-floated trilateral summit involving Trump, Putin, and Xi Jinping that would exclude Ukraine. "There can be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine," he said. The Wall Street Journal reported the proposal would see Ukraine's fate decided without its participation. The human cost continued unabated. At least nine people were killed in Ukraine on Tuesday, including three passengers on the Kyiv-to-Odesa highway struck by a Russian drone. One victim was a shuttle bus driver heading to a military cemetery. Rubio, speaking from India, insisted there was "not some deliberate political directive to go out and harm Ukraine" — while failing to explain why satellite communications and intelligence were curtailed.
